I’m looking for a new job!
Brilliant Tech-Savvy Ph.D. in search of a job in academic technology for a small liberal arts college. Do you know of one? Let me know and I’ll send you my resume.
In the meantime, I had a sudden urge to make myself a fabulous new tank for my book signing in May, so I went back to the local Knitting Dominatrix. The yarn, the style and the overall look are totally new for me, and I can’t wait to show off my new, toned, guns (well, everything is relative, isn’t it?)
Thanks to Elizabeth Zimmerman, whose quote “Knit on, with confidence and hope, through all crises” has gotten me through this week. That and lots of yoga, treadmill time and some good weights.
Yarn Harlot
From an email for the Circles-salon mailing list:
Book Signing Potluck– Confession Session, 6:30-8:30 pm, Friday, 04/29
You know her as The Yarn Harlot, that most humorous knit blogger. Now, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee is the proud and petrified auther of “At Knit’s End: Meditations for Women Who Knit Too Much. (That couldn’t be any of us….) And you’ve all let her know that you want her come to Circles. (Thank you.) So, she’s coming to share a few of her outrageous behaviors related to knitting. And she’s ready to hear about yours, too. So, come confess about that secret stash in the tire well of your trunk and that week of sick days that you took because you couldn’t stop knitting. Remember to bring an offering to help the Yarn Harlot feel at home and to sustain us through the tears of laughter!
Can’t wait to see the local fiber nuts there!

I sent out many, many emails today about this. I got many, many emails back labeled as undeliverable. If you think you should have gotten an email from me, please contact me at goddess[at]cyborgoddess.prettyposies.com (don’t forget to include your mail address as well) and we’ll get you sorted out.
The big change to the next round is the inclusion of a small, special gift, placed at the bottom of the box. That way even if you can’t find exactly what you were hoping for among the stash, you can at least get a nice little present out of it (knit/felted flowers, the java jacket I’m still craving, maybe a skein of special yarn, or a nice stitch marker?). And I’m begging you – before you put in all your left over yarn, ask yourself, would you be happy opening the box and seeing it? If not, please, please, please donate it – call your local senior center, head start or after school care program. If you can not find a good home for it, you can mail it to me and I’ll donate it to Erin’s ladies who are so desperate for yarn that Red Heart is a luxury.
Canadian Lace Boxers – I’ve gotten a lead on the box and am waiting for confirmation. Please bear with us while we send out the Mounties!
In other news, I am knitting a bit – a baby blanket in the round from Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Knitter’s Almanac – an excellent pattern if you don’t know how much yarn you have and you just want to knit till it is done. I’m using a Classic Elite cotton that washes up great. I also made a pair of booties out of Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn. I’ve dubbed this month the March of The Booty – let me know if you are along for the making for baby (as opposed to baby making – Congrats to Boogie Knits on their future addition) and I’ll throw up a list on the right.
I must confess that I may have been the last to arrive and the first to leave the Afghan sew-up hosted by Julie last weekend. I just happened to be standing next to Kay’s adorable son which is why you saw so much of me. But a little less than a few months ago, as my breakup with FRED is going great.
